Tin Plated Steel Steel Foundations
Tinning is the process of thinly coating steel coils with tin to prevent rust and environmental interaction. The resulting product of tinning is known as ‘tinplate’.
The tin coating is applied to a steel coil either by the electroplating process or by the hot dip process. The electroplating process uses a high electrical differential between the steel strip and the dissolvable tin electrode to coat the coil with the tin. The hot dip process coats the steel by running it through a molten bath of tin.
Tinplate has the strength and formability of steel combined with the non-corrosive and non-toxic properties of tin. It is largely used for containers for food and beverages, paints, oils, and numerous other products, such as parts for radio and other electronic equipment.
